Whoa! Papogi points ba ito?As of this writing, the issue of pledging $1B continue to draw jeers and when I learned this, I was upset…I totally cannot understand why PNoy should pledge money.
This government is completely insensitive to the welfare of the masses. The $1B pledge is a slap in the Filipino people’s face that cope with the grave economic problems of unemployment, poverty, hunger, rising costs of living, suffering from disease and epidemics resulting from government’s wrong economic policies (PDP, PPPs, CCTs) and misplaced priorities such as budget cuts on social services.
Our foreign debt has swelled to $62.9B. We continuously pay for debt servicing.
We are more in debt here! Why lend $1B when we need it? $1B can be used for public education, livelihood programs and jobs generation.
We have suffered so much from the outcomes of the IMF-WB successive structural adjustment programs; it thwarted national industrialization and genuine land reform and compelled the government to implement low wages, unemployment, poverty and hunger on the Filipino people.
I really would not let PNoy pledge $1B.
Philippines was in crisis the past century (in 1997 if I'm not mistaken) and the EU countries lent us handsomely, why not give back the help?
ReplyDeleteI think we can give back, but not that big of an amount :D our country is still in debt (deep-down-the-hole kind of debt, i believe). although i'm not in the position to say how much, but i think we could give back somehow :)
DeleteI agree. It's okay to help as long our country won't need that money. It's not like we have overflowing funds right now. Perhaps we can lend a few millions $ not billions, at please naman, unahin muna natin ang sarili natin before we help others.
DeleteNapaisip ako...are we already well-off that we can already give away a hefty amount?
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence on this one. I don't think PNoy can be that stupid. Perhaps he's thinking of it more as an investment. Also, the EU has helped us several times in the past.
ReplyDeleteI just dont know how to pledge money we don't have.
I don't really agree with this but maybe they have plans for this naman. But $1B should have been a lot money to build schools e. So sana if ever they will do it, dapat may magandang kapalit.
ReplyDeleteMommy Maye (http://momayes.blogspot.com/)
That's a lot of money! And do we really have that huge amount? For me, it's okay to help since Europe's economy is kinda not in a very good condition now. But to pledge $1 Billion upsets me too. Being a nurse and a college instructor, I've seen a looot of government hospitals with poor facilities (some are even worst). I've been to different public schools also, and students do share books, and the rooms aren't that good. I wish the Pinoys would benefit also.
ReplyDeleteWhy not use that big amount of money to help Filipinos. Ang dami pa kayang nagugutom dito at walang maayos na tirahan.
ReplyDeleteSurely, PNoy has a purpose behind that decision pero please naman tingnan nya kalagayan ng bansa nya.
Napadaan at nakisali sa usapan dito Reese. Kumusta?
Ask ako favor, if you're not busy pwde pa comment ako sa post na ito..

Salamat ng marami... :)
I agree. 1b is too much. They can do something saving when mother nature strikes back. We don't like to have another Ondoy tragedy. Well, sana mapagisipan lang nila yan maigi.
ReplyDeleteWhat was he thinking? Whoever advised him to do that is just plain stupid. And PNoy's even stupider for considering it. He could very well use the money to enhance the K-12 program, or build more classrooms. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why they are helping other nation when in fact, our kababayans need them most. Build roads, buildings and good education system.
ReplyDeletesince they cannot use it to other projects, i think its ok for us to lend other countries, so when its time for us to borrow again, theyll lend us.. "do to others what we want others do to us"..
ReplyDeleteBaka Papogi na naman nga. We can use that money para maimprove lagay ng bansa natin ngayon kesa ganyan.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he has a purpose for this one. Hope he can make pinas more better....
ReplyDeletethere is nothing wrong helping Europe countries and for sur Pnoy has a purpose why he wants to help Europe but I hope it is for the betterment of our country
ReplyDeletei think it's better to lend it and help other countries than knowing that, that money goes into the politicians pockets.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit skeptic about this. It's just that $1B can go a loooooong way for our country. But if it can create a good alliance with Europe then maybe PNoy have thought of that. I just hope and pray that it(his deed) will do us good someday.
ReplyDeleteI'm not very well updated with what's going on, but I pray that PNoy knows what he's doing...
ReplyDeletei believe it's just a pledge parang guarantor lang (pls correct me)...
ReplyDeletedo you think we will not get hit when EU economy goes down? they say it will be the next worldwide depression, domino effect...
Wow, was he pressured in doing that?
ReplyDeleteMaybe he did it out of pakikisama. We've been recipients of money from other countries from the past and maybe we should give too and being poor is no excuse.
Whatever it is I just hope he knows what he's doing or else we're doomed.
I don't agree either ...
ReplyDeleteHmmm.. I guess giving a little of what we have would do. There are limitations naman to what we can give as help. But, of course, aside from helping, PNoy should also consider that our OWN country needs help. There still are hungry people roaming the streets, and it is so sad to see.
ReplyDeletethis is so informative.. I learned something new thanks for sharing..i thought it was a bad idea..
ReplyDeleteGrabe so much money involve again. I really hope PNoy and his advisers analyzed the whole issue before they decided..
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about this, Are we sure it's not gonna be use to pay that debt you said we owe them anyway? Because if we owe them that much then they would just accept 1b dollar as a payment from those debt instead.. maybe the word pledge is just a sugar coat for the word payment. reducing our debt from 62.9B to 61.9 B? I don't think pledge is a gift but actually a payment.. maybe we should read between the lines more thoroughly...
ReplyDeletei do not know where our government will find $1B if that is really the case, besides we can find more use for that amount of money for our own country's good. anyway, the president is probably just trying to be helpful + showing an example that we do not really need to be a super-rich country to be able to extend help to other countries that are in need...
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing to help. But, looking on our side, we still need help. Our country still have debts from other countries. They are even things that needs to be developed. I hope they can solve the problems of our country first, before lending a hand to the others.
ReplyDeleteyes I am agree with it, better than it will just goes to kurakot project here since it will soon be paid and I think it is a kind move for us to help our neeighboring countries since they also help us when our economy down, but I don't just agree with too much amount. half or 1/3 of it is enough to lend because we are not like Singapore or Taiwan that is more rich than our country
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about this one, di ko ata nabasa sa Sunday papers. kasi sunday lang nag dedeliver sa bahay ng newspaper ung suki ko. Anyways, I think PNoy should think about this decision muna, wag agad2. We need it more than the Europeans and pwde naman sya mg pledge not that extent though.
